WOMEN MINISTRY CALLS FOR WITHDRAWAL OF NATIONAL AWARD CONFERRED ON LAMPTEY-MILLS

The Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs is calling for the withdrawal of the National Award conferred on Mr. Enoch Lamptey Mills last year until the veracity of all allegations against him has been established.
In a release signed by the sector Minister, Akua Sena Dansua, Mr. Lamptey Mills’ alleged conduct negates the award which portrays him as a worthy citizen of the nation.
Hon. Sena Dansua said the ministry has been following with great concern events unfolding from the much publicized case of compulsory marriage brought against Mr. Lamptey Mills the proprietor of Great Lamptey Mills Institute who impregnated one of his students who was then 16-years-old and forced her to marry him.
The case was sent to court but was discharged by an Accra Circuit Court, after the victim’s father intervened for an out-of-court settlement.
She said in as much as her outfit respects the decision of the court, the ministry is calling on the Police and law enforcement agencies to re-open a full scale investigation into the conduct of Mr. Lamptey Mills in view of new allegations of misconduct which have been leveled against him by students of the institute in the media since the case begun.
Hon. Sena Dansua stressed that the ministry strongly support the decision of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to set up its own investigations into the case and urge the Service to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter to ensure that all those found culpable face the stipulated sanctions of the GES.
