GHANA NATIONAL SERVICE UNDER RESOURCED

Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service is under seriously resourced with numerical staff strength of nearly 7, 000 nationwide.
This figure includes both senior and junior staffs.
Despite its low staff strength, the service has being rendering their unflinching services to the country in an area of fire fighting.
In an exclusive interview with the Public Relations Officer of the Fire Service, Divisional Officer Timothy Osafo Afum outlined some of the challenges facing the service.
He explained the Fire Service has been neglected for too long in terms of providing the necessary equipments to the service and also improving the conditions of services for personnel.
D.O Osafo Afum lamented on how the service still depend on obsolete fire tenders to combat fire whenever there is a fire outbreak in the country.
He also commented on accommodation problem the service is facing nationwide.

D.O Osafo Afum said out of 143 fire offices nationwide, only 70 offices have fire tenders. He continued that as a result of this, the new creation districts have no fire offices.
