DEMARCATION OF KASOA

The NDC former Member of Parliament for Kasoa, Baba Lamin Abu Sadat is calling on the Ministry of Local Government and political heads of the Central Region to seriously consider the upgrading of Kasoa to a level befitting its current status.
Baba Lamin underscored that if the population size required for the creation of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies are anything to go by then one is at loss why Kasoa still remains a sub-structure under a District Assembly.
He noted Kasoa is currently Cosmopolitan community with its attendant challenges, a lot of financial and other institutions have relocated from the national capital to the area, making the place economically viable.
Baba Lamin explained that according to the District Assembly decentralization concept in 1988, during the demarcation, Kasoa was a little community with one electoral area and one Assembly representative, but now Kasoa the capital of the Awutu district currently has over 100 thousand inhabitants stretching its boundaries to the Greater Accra Region.
He therefore suggested that a lot of revenue collection and generation could be handled at Kasoa if the necessary legislation supporting its appropriate status is given.
Adom Kasiebo therefore spoke to the Local Government Minister, Joseph Yeley Chireh on the supposed demarcation of uplifting Kasoa current status to Metropolitan Assembly.
He said plans are far advanced to raise its current status and this will be completed after the 2010 population census.
